As we all know, life throws us a curve ball once in a while. And sometimes the path to search for the answers to a problem aren't all that clear or easy to find. This is a personal story of how a desperate search for answers to a problem one of our 10 grandchildren has, led us to find a product that helps make his life a little more bearable when things get tough.
For some of you, you won't be able to imagine how horrible it can be for a young child to have to live with an extreme nickel allergy. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to a noise in your house, and after checking your children's bedrooms you see one of your children is not in his bed. You search your house and find him huddled up on the floor in your pantry eating a frozen corn dog because he is so hungry for things he is not allowed to eat. Imagine not only his pain, but the pain of his parents finding him that way, not being able to help him and not knowing what to do.
His arms and legs are scarred from intense scratching because of the overwhelming itching caused by his nickel allergy. He cries at night when he can't sleep because almost anything that touches his skin, including his clothes, causes a terrible, itchy reaction.
Can you imagine this becoming normal? It may surprise you that over 700 million people are allergic to nickel and cobalt as well as other damaging metals. What most of us take for granted in our lives with things like cupboard handles, zippers, scissors, keys, door knobs, jewelry and many kinds of food, can be poison to those with a metal allergy.
Most people don't realize that most things we eat every day contain metal and are totally off limits to anyone with a severe metal allergy. This makes things really complicated when it comes time to feed your children.
My husband, Doug and I started Sensiteve and began selling Skintifique products after many months of searching for something to help our grandson who has severe allergies to almost everything, but more particular Nickel.
